Emily Rapport portrays a distinctly American landscape in her paintings of vacant lots, down-at-the-heels homes, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and Chicago’s El tracks.

Painting is a slow process, a prolonged reflection, in which we can notice a sunset reflected in a dirty puddle or ponder the deep blues and purples of a muddy construction site at dusk. In a painting, the mundane becomes sublime.

Emily Rapport studied painting at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, and received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois.
