Urban Landscapes: Visions of Chicago
New Photographs by Andrew Steiner, Paintings by Emily Rapport
“Urban Landscapes,” features new work by photographer Andrew Steiner and painter Emily Rapport at the Beauty and Brawn Art Gallery, March 9 through April 19, 2013. The exhibition coincides with the 1st Anniversary Celebration of Beauty & Brawn Gallery.
Recalling daily life in Chicago’s neighborhoods, Ms. Rapport’s oil paintings and Mr. Steiner’s documentary photography relate to a broader human experience. Mr. Steiner’s dynamic compositions frame downtown immigration rallies, street festivals and candids of passersby. His focus isolates and explores unexpected dramas of light, shape, and human interaction. Ms. Rapport’s work presents typically mundane scenes including fast food restaurants, empty malls at night and dilapidated houses with an eye towards finding the sublime in daily life.
The exhibition and opening reception will take place at Beauty and Brawn Art Gallery & Think Space, 3501 W. Fullerton, Chicago, IL 60647. Exhibition dates are March 9th, 2013 – April 27, 2013 and the opening reception will take place on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Music and refreshments provided. All other hours are by appointment only, frequent open viewings to be announced.
Mr. Steiner and Ms. Rapport have shared a collaborative artistic partnership for the past 19 years. This is their second group exhibition.
